{"id":380,"date":"2013-11-21T13:34:11","date_gmt":"2013-11-21T18:34:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.northhatley.org\/?page_id=380"},"modified":"2021-03-24T09:45:45","modified_gmt":"2021-03-24T13:45:45","slug":"permits","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/www.northhatley.org\/en\/municipality\/municipal-information\/permits\/","title":{"rendered":"Activities that Require a Municipal Permit"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>When should you ask for a permit?<\/h1>\n<p>You need a Municipal permit to carry out the following activities:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"#1\">Building and Renovating<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#2\">Cutting and Felling Trees<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#3\">Fires<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#4\">Garage Sales<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a title=\"Pesticides and Hazardous Waste\" href=\"http:\/\/www.northhatley.org\/municipality\/municipal-information\/pesticides-hazardous-waste\/\">Pesticides<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#5\">Fireworks<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a name=\"1\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Building and Renovating<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Prior to starting construction or renovation work, you must apply for a permit, which must be approved by the municipal inspector and could be submitted to the <a title=\"North Hatley\u2019s Town Planning and Heritage Committee (CCUP)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.northhatley.org\/municipality\/municipal-council-committees\/urbanism\/\">Town Planning and Heritage Committee<\/a>. For any information regarding this type of permit, please contact the municipal inspector (from Tuesday through Friday).<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Demolition<\/li>\n<li>Docks<\/li>\n<li>Enlargement<\/li>\n<li>Change of use<\/li>\n<li>Moving a building<\/li>\n<li>Excavation<\/li>\n<li>Pool<\/li>\n<li>Repairs<\/li>\n<li>Renovation<\/li>\n<li>Shore and littoral<\/li>\n<li>Signs<\/li>\n<li>Major changes to a building<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.northhatley.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Formulaire-demande-permis-AN-REMPLIR.pdf\">Download the form<\/a><a name=\"2\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Cutting and Felling Trees<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>In order to preserve our natural heritage, before trimming or cutting down a tree, North Hatley residents should contact the municipal inspector (from Tuesday through Friday) by phone (819\u00a0842-2754) or email (<a href=\"mailto:inspection@northhatley.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">inspection@northhatley.org<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>You are not permitted to cut a tree that is located 15 metres or less from the shore of the lake or the river.<a name=\"3\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Permits for Fires \u2013 IMPORTANT!<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>It is very important to obtain a fire permit by calling the Town Hall before starting an outdoor fire. The person responsible will give you a permit if the level of Fire Risk (as stated by SOPFEU) permits it. You can find this indicator on our main web page.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Here is the procedure to follow\u00a0:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>During the week<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You must get authorization from the municipality by phoning the town hall. If a permit is granted, it is important to provide the following information\u00a0:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The address of the fire, as well as your name and phone number<\/li>\n<li>The purpose of the fire as well as its expected duration<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Please note that the authorization is only good for that day and that a new permit request will have to be made for each subsequent day.<\/p>\n<p><strong>On the weekend<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It is your responsibility to check if weather conditions are favourable before lighting a fire (wind factor, dryness, etc.). This information is available from Environment Canada at 819-564-5702.<\/p>\n<p>If weather conditions allow for a fire, it is important to leave the following information on the answering machine of the municipality so that your permit will be registered\u00a0:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Your name, address and the address of the fire<\/li>\n<li>The date and time you are lighting the fire<\/li>\n<li>The reason you are lighting a fire<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Precautionary Measures<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Always have a hose near the fire<\/li>\n<li>Keep the fire under close supervision<\/li>\n<li>Make sure the smoke does not cause an inconvenience to neighbours<\/li>\n<li>Make sure the flames never exceed one metre (1 m) in height.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><a name=\"4\"><\/a><strong>Garage Sales<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Anyone who wishes to hold a garage sale must obtain a permit, free of charge, at the Town Hall. You can hold a maximum of three garage sales per year.<\/p>\n<h3><a name=\"5\"><\/a>Fireworks<\/h3>\n<p>It is very important to obtain a permit by calling the Town Hall before setting off any fireworks.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When should you ask for a permit?
