Visual Arts, Crafts & Antiques<\/h1>\n

Any season is the right time to visit local art and crafts galleries and antique shops. You can also admire original works in some of North Hatley\u2019s pubs and restaurants:<\/p>\n

Also, each year, several artists from the region take part in the Circuit des arts Memphr\u00e9magog<\/a>.<\/p>\n

North Hatley has always attracted painters, writers, sculptors, gallery owners, ceramists and musicians; after all, the village is an extraordinary source of inspiration for artists!<\/p>\n

A few highlights<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2022\u00a0 North Hatley was the birthplace of the l\u2019Encyclop\u00e9die de l\u2019Agora<\/strong><\/a>, recommended by, among others, the prominent French daily Le Monde, the Biblioth\u00e8que Nationale de France, Figaro, and Science et Vie.<\/p>\n

\u2022\u00a0During the 1970s, poet D.C. Jones and novelist Ronald Sutherland launched Seventh Moon, a poetry event unique in Quebec that brought together Anglophone and Francophone poetry enthusiasts including Roland Gigu\u00e8re, G\u00e9rald Godin, Pauline Julien, and Marie-Claire Blais until the early 1990s.<\/p>\n

\u2022\u00a0 In the late 1950s, Ga\u00ebtan Beaudin, a pioneer of studio pottery in Qu\u00e9bec, founded in North Hatley a major school and workshop<\/a> where he taught \u201chandmade functional pottery in traditional wood-fired Asian stoneware and raku.\u201d It closed in 1973.<\/p>\n
