Bridge Closure – Construction
The Ministère des Transports is informing the population of the complete closure of the Main Street bridge in North Hatley as of May 10. Lasting one month, this planned closure will make it possible to complete the reconstruction of the bridge, which consists of laying the final layer of asphalt, waterproofing the bridge slab and backfilling the approaches to the bridge structure.
During the closure, motorists will have to take the same detour that was in place in 2020 via routes 108 and 143, as well as Sherbrooke road. This 20 km detour is the only road allowing the circulation of all types of vehicles and allowing to bypass the Massawippi River.
Nautical traffic and passage of pedestrians and cyclists
Aware that the bridge is located in the heart of downtown North Hatley, recognized as one of the most beautiful tourist villages in the region, the Ministère des Transports has planned measures to mitigate the impacts of the construction site, in particular for residents, cyclists, pedestrians and tourists. Thus, nautical circulation will be possible during the works; the passage of pedestrians and cyclists will also be maintained thanks to the footbridge located near the current bridge.
These works can be modified due to operational constraints. To find out about the current obstacles, consult Québec 511, a practical tool for properly planning your trips.
For the safety and health of workers, all the necessary sanitary measures are deployed on this site.
The Ministère des Transports thanks road users for respecting the signs in place in the work zone.
